Work exchange
People interested in a deeper involvement in our work, activities and projects,
may want to apply for a work exchange position. Activities include; site design
implementation, infrastructure improvements and assistance with the centers
daily operations. If you are interested in one of our work exchange positions,
please see "how to apply" below. These residential positions offer participants
an opportunity to be part of a growing nonprofit while living and working in a
beautiful, nurturing and inspiring environment. We currently have two short
term work trade positions available. Participants receive lodging, use of
facilities, utilities, meals and the gained knowledge that comes from the
experiences had at MELC. Our work exchange programs are held from June through
October.
Basic terms of the internships
(long term and dry season positions)
MELC is excited to announce one long term and one dry season internship
positions. In exchange for 20 hours of work per week (long term) and 15 hours
per week (dry season), MELC provides you with residential housing in a passive
solar home (long term) and rustic housing (dry season, large tent, trailer,
tipi, etc.) and full use of our bath house. We pay for utilities and ask you to
contribute $50.00 per month to cover half of your food costs (MELC pays the
other half). We maintain a vegetarian kitchen (although the community is not
strictly vegetarian). Meals are shared in the dining room and all residents,
including interns, share cooking and cleaning responsibilities.
Time off
During your time off, feel free to enjoy our facilities which include 31 acres
of beautiful forest land, two creeks with several small swimming holes, our
sustainable living library, kitchen/dining room, and community spaces. All
interns are welcome to participate in other Center activities, workshops and
courses. You are also eligible for vacation time, up to four weeks per year.
Who should apply?
We are looking for people interested in learning more about sustainable living
skills and practices, someone with a sense of humor, a positive and
enthusiastic attitude, and a willingness to learn; someone who can routinely
manage a broad diversity of challenges at once. You should be flexible,
energetic and willing to accommodate the dynamic processes of a growing
non-profit venture. We take great pride in maintaining an environment of
